What is the Hiroshima International Plaza (HIP)?

Constructed in 1997 in Higashi-Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, the Hiroshima International Plaza (HIP) is a complex facility housing both the Hiroshima International Cooperation Center and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Chugoku International Center. The plaza serves as the hub facility for international cooperation and contribution efforts in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions.
The HIP offers training programs for trainees from foreign countries to obtain necessary skills and learn Japanese language and Japanese culture, as well as international training programs for corporate staff members, and support for non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Administrative Operation Organization:(Hiroshima International Center)

 

The Hiroshima International Center (HIC) is a public-service corporation established jointly by private companies and local agencies in Hiroshima Prefecture, with the purpose of promoting a wide variety of international exchange and cooperation efforts. Currently, the HIC works on a wide range of community support efforts and problem solution measures, such as education on international understanding and multi-cultural coexistence.

January 11, 1989 HIC established (at International Relations Office,
General Affairs Department, Hiroshima Prefecture)
January 23, 1990 HIC certified as the Local Authority  for International Relations in
Hiroshima Prefecture
July 7, 1992 HIC office relocated to the Hiroshima Crystal Plaza
March 30, 1993 HIC certified as a special public-service promotion corporation
April 1, 1997 HIC office divided into the Exchange Department and the Training
Department to promote further activities

HIC (Training Department) certified as the designated administrator

■Offering Advanced-Level Japanese Language Programs (commissioned by Hiroshima Prefecture)

Supporting international students studying at graduate schools in Hiroshima Prefecture to obtain high-level Japanese proficiency necessary to perform their research activities, specifically writing theses, giving presentations, and engaging in discussions

■Training Foreign Teachers of Japanese Language (commissioned by Hiroshima Prefecture)

Supporting foreign teachers of Japanese language to enhance their teaching skills

■Providing Japanese Language and Cultural Seminars as Part of the JET Program (commissioned by Hiroshima Prefecture)

Providing conversational Japanese classes and Japanese cultural seminars for assistant teachers of foreign languages who have recently arrived in Japan to work in Hiroshima Prefecture

■Offering Japanese Language and Japanese Cultural Experience Programs for Foreign College Students (commissioned by Hiroshima Prefecture)

Offering Japanese language and Japanese cultural experience programs to students studying Japanese or Japanology at foreign colleges

■Developing Internationally-Minded Human Resources

Offering Japanese language and Japanese cultural experience programs at the HIP for foreign elementary schools, junior and senior high schools, colleges, and local governments, as well as for Japanese colleges and companies

Maintaining and enhancing the collection of books, music, films, and other resources to further improve the information provision function of the HIP Information Center/Library

Providing information through the Information Center/Library, offering advice, and operating the NGO Exchange Room

■Supporting Grassroots International Cooperative Efforts

Raising a fund necessary for NGOs to promote international cooperative efforts
